Laser Epilation

Laser Epilation

Laser epilation is one of the most applied aesthetic procedures all over the world. It is a very practical process that adds comfort to life when applied correctly at the right time. The healthiest method of eliminating undesirable hair permanently is laser epilation.

The target in laser epilation is the color pigment named “Chlomophor Melanin”. Melanin absorbs the laser ray. It damages the hair follicle by generating heat. If the hair follicle is in the anagen stage, the damage is more. However, since all our hair follicles are not in the same phase at the same time in our body, repetitive sessions are required.

Hair Cycle Consists of 3 Phases :

Anagen ; It is the growth phase of hairs and is the target phase for Laser Hair Removal.
Catagen ; It is the resting phase of the hair. It takes a week or two, and at the end of this phase, the hair stops growing.
Telogen ;Hair shedding phase. The hair is separated from the stem. Laser hair removal is also the most ineffective phase. Energy does not reach the stem.

In our center, we use two different systems for both fine and thick hair. Both systems have two amazing features. The first is skin rejuvenation. With laser epilation, we not only eliminate your undesirable hair, but also increase your skin quality. Secondly, we can offer comfortable laser epilation regardless of skin color and season.

The original high-tech laser device such as Q Swich, ND-Yag, Hellios 3, Tuna, which we use for fine hairs, does not trigger and reproduce fine hairs, unlike all other laser systems. It gradually decreases with repeated sessions. It beautifies the skin, eliminates unpleasant conditions such as inflammation caused by hair follicles and enlarged pores.

Especially waxing, tweezers, etc., such as the face area, I strongly recommend it in sensitive areas where such processes react negatively. I see that in areas such as the upper lip and cheek, there are spots from the wrong methods made in the past, and it becomes difficult to correct these spots.

So What Should the Person Who Decides on Laser Epilation Do?

First of all, of course, the right device selection. It should be questioned whether the device is suitable for itself and its originality, which I have explained in another blog.

Waxing, tweezers, depilatory, etc. should be discontinued at least 1 month in advance and the hairs should be visible. Solarium should not be entered. Although we say that the person’s own skin color is not a problem, it is not right to do laser treatment on it, since solarium or excessive sunbathing will tire the skin in the near future. Also, there should be no open scars in the area to be made, and no systemic acne medication should have been used recently.

In Which Situations Is Laser Epilation Not Applied?

  • Laser epilation is not applied to white / light blond hair.
  • It is not applied to those who use orally taken roaccutane and similar acne medications.
  • It is not applied to people using medications containing isotretinoin.
  • It is not applied to people with psoriasis.
  • Although there are no clear evidences about its harms; It is not recommended before the 3rd month of pregnancy and after the 6th month of pregnancy due to some psychological reasons. Research on this subject continues.
  • People who have diseases such as eczema and fungus should definitely tell their doctor. Laser epilation can be applied to these people only after a detailed control and analysis.
  • It is not recommended for people with photosensitive (photosensitive) skin diseases to have laser epilation, it is risky.
  • This process is not applied on the flesh moles on the body.
  • It is not applied on tattoos on the body.
  • It is not applied to patients with hepatitis B.
  • It is not recommended before adolescence period. It can only be applied during adolescence with the approval of parents and physicians.
  • Laser epilation is not applied to the eyelids and surrounding areas. Special glasses are definitely used when applying on the face area.

Are There Any Harms, Side Effects, Complications of Laser Hair Removal?

This process is more than a cosmetic care application, it is a medical procedure. For this reason, it requires great care, experience and quality equipment. In our country, the relevant ministries have taken various precautions and determined the minimum conditions and requirements of the centers where laser epilation can be applied by regulation. Therefore, if you want to avoid any harm and have an application that gives healthy and desired results; make sure to apply to a licensed center that performs the procedure under the supervision of a doctor.

The side effects of laser hair removal are still a subject of research as in many other medical procedures. In 1997, it was recorded by the FDA that this application (if done in the right conditions and in the right way) does not cause any harm to health. However, at this point, the skin and hair characteristics of the person to be treated and the choice of laser type (Alexandrite, Nd:YAG, Diode) to be made in the light of these features; It is as important as the experience of the person who will do the application and the quality of the device.

How Many Sessions Does Laser Epilation Take?

The laser rays given to the skin during the application only affect the hair follicles in the active (anagen) phase. All hair follicles on the skin cannot be active at the same time. In order for the passive, that is, telogen, hair follicles to be affected by the laser epilation process, these hair follicles are expected to become anagen. Therefore, the application is spread over more than one session.

Depending on the amount of hair on the person’s body, hormonal structure and the device and technique used in the laser epilation process, the number can vary between 2 and 12 sessions. Laser epilation applied to the face area can last up to a maximum of 12 sessions. Laser epilation applied to the body area is between 8 and 10 sessions at most.
